I woke up in the best mood.
Eric had left early to stop at the gym before work. So I cleaned the house and felt that after last night, it couldn't get any worse. We were on the right track and things could only get better.
I decided to run a bunch of errands, stop by Eclectic Food to make sure the job was on schedule, and then surprise Eric at the office.
Eclectic Food was jumping. My boss, John Daniel Clein came into my office to let me know how happy he was that I was working at the company. He said the client reports were unanimously favorable and was hopeful that one day I'd be a partner. I told him I was pretty damn happy with the job and looked forward to the future.
However, I got the funniest feeling from John Daniel. I mean, the guy had a wife and kids, but ever since he told me about having sex with Eric, when they "experimented" in college... I don't know, I couldn't help wondering if he still experimented now and then. The guy was a gay man's fantasy: six foot four, dark, and handsome. If he ever wanted to come over to my side of the court, I had about a hundred friends that would kill for a date.
He flattered the hell out of me and I left the catering company feeling like a million bucks, so I zipped over to Century City to surprise Eric.

Janeanne was at her desk, on the phone with a hundred year-old lady, an Olympic gold medalist from the 30's.
"Yes, ma'am, I know you're an Olympian and Dr. Lewis would be more than happy to have you come in for an exam, but you have to make an appointment."
Janeanne rolled her eyes at me. "Excuse me, ma'am...can you hold for a moment?"
She pressed the hold button. "Ancient -- poor thing. Hope I have her energy when I'm that old. Eric's in his office with Rebecca Granville. Can you wait a sec?"
I nodded and took a seat across from Janeanne's desk while she got back on the phone. I picked up a magazine and pretended to read it.
Laughter.
I kept hearing hysterical laughter from Eric's office. He and Rebecca must be having the best time.
I couldn't help feeling a twinge of jealousy, though. I couldn't help remembering how many times Eric and I used to laugh like that-- and I realized it'd been a long time since we'd just laughed.
Another burst of laughter.
I got up and walked in. I sensed Janeanne trying to stop me, but she was still stuck in conversation on the phone, with a few lines lit up.
I opened the door and went into Eric's office.

On my way back to Eclectic Food, I started to feel so weird. I mean, Rebecca seemed so cool, so funny and almost wild. But Eric was tense and cold-- as if he wasn't happy at all to see me.
He said they were just going to lunch and I should have called.
I invited myself along, but Eric said they had to plan some things for the Clinic and I'd just get bored. Hey, I got the point.
"I have to go back to work, anyway," I said and excused myself.
Jealous.
I felt jealous. Of a woman! How weird.
