I'd gotten a room on the fourth floor, overlooking the parking lot. It was a swanky hotel and this room alone cost over two hundred dollars. There was no way I was gonna spend more than that for a room I wasn't going to enjoy.
Wow! I'd forgotten how much fun San Francisco was, how beautiful it was, and how stunning the San Francisco men! I swear to God, SF men are the hottest in the country-- even better than New York.
If I wasn't in the city by the bay for relationship purposes, I would have had a blast. But I did have work to do. Eric had gotten a room very high up in the hotel. After he and Rebecca took off, I bribed a maid and got the passkey into his room, "I'm staying with Dr. Lewis, I'm his cousin..."
The security in these fancy places sucked.
His room was stunning and there was a connecting door to the adjoining suite for Rebecca. Very nice. I figured they must have a lot of work to do and that was the reason behind the adjoining rooms.
"The Wharf, a restaurant called Nemo's," said the Concierge, confirming for me Rebecca and Eric's reservation. He smiled at me and I tipped him.

From the outside of the restaurant, I watched them. Jeez, if Rebecca Granville had been a man, I would have been in serious trouble. I mean, she was all over my boyfriend-- feeding him scallops, choosing the wine, tickling him, teasing him... thank God she was a girl. He was up to his old "playing straight" routine.
I felt like Lucille Ball stalking John Wayne. I entered the side of the restaurant, past the bar, and moved to a table just behind theirs with a giant saltwater aquarium separating us. I was able to hear pieces of their conversation.
Eric said, "I love this city!"
She responded, "A great place to raise a family, don't you think... do you want kids, Eric?"
"I... that's a little premature, don't you think? I mean, it's such a commitment and such a huge responsibility. It'd take the right combination of parents to raise great kids."
"I'll be a terrific Mom, I just know it," Rebecca said.
Boy, these two were becoming very close friends. I snuck a look at them and noticed Rebecca holding Eric's hand...what the hell!? This was going too far. Was Eric leading her on?
When would he ever come completely out of the closet? Or was leading her on all part of the business game he felt he had to play?
The rest of the dinner was pretty quiet. I followed them back to the hotel. Eric excused himself and went to bed.

The rest of the weekend was a bust. I kept waiting and waiting for Eric to have some secret rendezvous... but it never materialized. In fact, it was as if Rebecca Granville was his damn bodyguard. She never left his side.
I did notice there was very little work going on this so-called medical retreat... but then, I did lose them a couple of times.

I took a plane back early to L.A.
I felt stupid doubting Eric. Assuming he was having an affair behind my back. Eric had changed and it was up to me to trust him on that.
I decided I would. I would trust Eric till I had reason not to.
