Hugo hiding behind newspaper

NOW YOU TELL ME!!

February 1, 1996 Vol. I, Issue No.7

I've already received some wonderful calls and letters from those of you who've heard through the grapevine or read in the newspaper about my unfortunate break-in at Mocha Daze two weeks ago. From the bottom of my heart--Thank you! It's oh-so-very wonderful to find out that you have so many friends that you've never even met. And to that hard-hearted, small-minded, cowardly lion who broke into my place and his poor attempt at decorating, "I'm BA-A-ACK!"

After having intimate relations with my insurance claims processor hashing out insurance details, and searching for new treasures that must replace the unreplaceable things that were damaged, I'm happy and relieved to say that Mocha Daze will be in full swing tomorrow morning! I'll be brewing at dawn, communing with the early birds. So PLEAASE come by and see me. We're closed for the next week or so as I hash out insurance details and try and replace some of the unreplaceable things that were damaged. "And Mothers, don't let your sons grow up to be insurance claims agents." Cowboy's okay, but insurance gestapo - NO.

The cost is taking a tremendous toll on my pocket book, so I welcome any ideas that anyone has for fund-raisers. I'm even willing to consider prostitution, if any of you rich WeHo boys want a bald, bearded old fart...

I also received few calls about my column on the two slain lesbians. Sadly, they weren't very positive. I will not name those people who lectured me on the "purpose" of my column, that the story about the two murdered activists was a drag, that it wasn't something that they wanted to read about. I will just mention that they said these things and leave their churlish self-absorption to speak for itself.

Still, from my own experience, I think I can understand why they feel the way do. As les/bi/gay people, it's often so difficult just to keep our chins up so that we can keep taking steps forward. Acknowledging the sheer volume of the difficulties facing us can freeze us in our tracks, so who wants to hear about them?

Out of sight, out of mind, right? The only way to overcome roadblocks is to open our eyes and see them so that we don't trip over them. If we can warn others who we see are about to take that fall, too, all the better.

Nobody wants to admit just how fragile we are but how much sweetness and light can we take without it just making us fat, lazy and full of cavities?

Kisses and hugs.

H.
