I tried to get past him without being seen.
When I got to the corner, the light turned red and I had to stop.
I began running in place.
I didn't want to talk to Hugo at that moment-- or anytime soon, for that matter.
What would I say to him?
I could just imagine the conversation.
"Hi Hugo. "
"Well hello, stranger," he'd say. "What have you been up to?"
"Well," I'd say, "Yesterday I had sex with Steve in a gym shower."
"Could you excuse me for a moment?"
He'd disappear into the store and then come out with a very large knife.
"I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to kill you now."
"Caffeine getting you down, Hugs?"
When was that damn light going to turn green?
I looked over at Hugo.
Have you ever been driving, seen a cute guy in the car next to you, and when you look over-- the guy's staring back at you with his finger up his nose?
Hugo was adjusting his himself when he saw me and waved.
"Want to go to lunch?" he asked.
"Sorry, Hugs. I can't." The light changed and I hurried across the busy intersection.
As I continued jogging, I realized there was something I could do to ease Hugo's anger.
I made a right turn, heading South-- smiling.
When I got to the glass shop, I was tired.
The man behind the counter looked at me, puzzled by my sweating body, and said, "Can I help you?"
"I was wondering. Have you finished that stained glass order for Mr. Ciccarelli, yet?"
"One moment."
The man looked through some papers.
"It seems," the man said. "Mr. Ciccarelli delayed the order. He said he would have to wait until he got his check from the insurance company."
"If I were to pay for it," I said. "When could it be ready?"
"I could have it for you tomorrow afternoon."
But how would I pay for it? And then I remembered-- Richard had already paid me.
