Lee was gone when I woke up.There was a note on the kitchen counter.
M.-I had an early appointment with a stage designer this morning. Don't think that you were just some one night plaything for me. I know you have another day of speaking with the DA. I'm so glad those two men are behind bars. After you're finished, come on over to my place and wellstart up right where we left off. Until then. Much love,Lee.
I put on my clothes.
In the move, I realized I left all of my toiletries, including my toothpaste, at my old place.
I was locking the door when Juliet came up behind me.
"Fun night?"
I nodded. I dared not to speak, for I didn't want Juliet to die from my morning breath.
"That Lee. She's some piece of work."
I nodded.
"Why don't you say something?"
I turned to face her, my hand over my mouth. "Morning breath."
"What?"
"Morning Breath."
"Oh, I see," She giggled.
I kept my hand over my mouth as I walked past her.
"Mike?"
I looked at her.
"Has Lee told you anything important about herself?"
I didn't understand what she was talking about, so, I shook my head.
Juliet rolled her eyes. "That Lee."
I stared at the photograph that was on the mantle at Lee's house.
It was a picture of a dancer in mid-leap.
He was almost parallel with the ground. It was an almost perfect leap. It wasn't the jump I was looking at. It was the dancers face. He looked familiar.
"Dinner's ready."
I turned and saw Lee. I looked back at the picture. They look...nah, I'd made that mistake before.
The two kids I'd worked with for the audition. I could have sworn that they were brother and sister. It turns out they were just two people Juliet had been working with for years.
I picked up the photo. "Who's this?"
She took the picture away from me and put it back on the mantle. "Just an old friend of mine. He went and died a few years ago. I keep a picture of him to remind me of my past."
"Was he an old lover?"
"No. we were just close," she said, placing one finger over the other. "We were like that."
She took my hand and led me to her bedroom.
We let the dinner get cold.
