I left Greg at the hospital after his father showed up.

The doctor said that if had I been five or so minutes later, Greg would have died.

What the hell could have made him do such a thing? Greg always seemed to be the happy one. Fran and I had our individual problems but Greg-- he just listened to them with that dopey grin of his or paint his pictures. You just never know with some people.

I made two phone calls on my way out of the hospital. One to Richard Milhouse and the other to the DA's office.

I told Richard what had happened to Greg. He told me to tell the hospital that he'd be paying for Greg's treatment.

The DA's office on the other hand wasn't as generous.

"Mr. Orlando, we need to interview you about the events you had with those two officers. You are an hour and a half late."

"I told you what happened. What was I supposed to do, let the guy die?"

"No. Can you be here in an hour?"

"Yes."

"Good. We wouldn't want those two to get released, would we?"

I felt my skin turn cold. The last thing I ever want to see are Friday and Gannon walking the streets. "No, we wouldn't."

"See you in an hour Mr. Orlando."

I hung up the phone.

I stopped into Mocha Daze for a cup of coffee on my way downtown.

Hugo and Jenn were taking a computer out of its box and hooking it up.

Jenn waved at me and I walked over to them. Hugo was wearing some computer cable like a necklace. "Welcome to the 21st century," he grinned.

He put a piece of cable around my neck like a lei and then kissed me on my cheeks. I handed it back.

"What's going on?" I asked him, rubbing Hugo spit off my face with my sleeve. "You becoming a techno-geek?"

"We're becoming a cyber-cafe."

"A what?"

"Cyber-cafe. You get a latte' and cruise down the information super highway."

"Sounds like fun."
